The March on Washington in 1963 was significant because it was the largest protest in American history as of that year. Roughly 250,000 people meet in Washington DC to protest the social, economic, and political inequality felt by African-American citizens on a daily basis. This March ended with Martin Luther King Jr.'s captivating "I Have a Dream" speech.
