Lines 549-555 of Beowulf suggest that people judged a man’s life by his actions and that fame was of paramount importance.

In these lines, it is evident that the fame of a man shaped his whole life, which also could be a threat to his own life. Additionally, the fame of a man was also a matter of discussion among others.
