Let the earnings of Yun be represented by = x

Let Kevin's earnings be represented by = y

As given, Kevin earned 10 less than 3 times as much as Yun earned.

Equation becomes [tex]y=3x-10[/tex]   .... (1)

Kevin earned $71, so y= 71  ... (2)

Equaling (1) and (2)

[tex]3x-10=71[/tex]

[tex]3x=81[/tex]

[tex]x=27[/tex]

Hence, Yun earned $27
