NATO, also known as North Atlantic Treaty Association, was an alliance of importance to Escott Reid, a Canadian diplomat. He believed that it would benefit Canada greatly and pursued the US to join as he thought that it would prove a potential economic advantage to his country.
The disadvantage is the obligation to protect its allies when conflict is present.
