John spent 20% of his money on food. He spent 40% of the remainder on a toy. If the toy cost 12$ then what percentage of his money did he spend on the toy

Notice how 20% is half of 40% this gives us a clue that the toy is double the price of the food he bought therefore the price for the food is $6
