Answer:

The number of decimals in a product is the sum of the number of decimal places in each factor.

Example:

Suppose we have 1.3 and 2.6, which have one decimal place each.  We can expect the product to have 2 decimal places.

1.3 * 2.6 = 3.38 has 2 decimal places.
