Answer: The Stono Rebellion (sometimes called Cato's Conspiracy or Cato's Rebellion) was a slave rebellion that began on 9 September 1739, in the colony of South Carolina. Led by an Angolan named Jemmy, a band of twenty slaves organized a rebellion on the banks of the Stono River. As a result, South Carolina's lawmakers enacted a harsher slave code.
