A liquid has a fixed volume because the molecules stay close in contact with each other. They have chemical bonds.
But in a gaseous state these bonds have been broken, and the molecules do not stay in close contact with one another. So, a gas is not able to form a fixed volume. Bonds have been broken and ever expanding gas volume continues…. Understand…?
