You have to add all of those fractions up since they are asking for the total weight.

so you do 2 1/2 + 3/8 + 1 1/4 = 4 1/8
Just do a simple calculation and be careful during that:
= 2 1/2 + 2(3/8) + 1 1/4 pounds
= 5/2 + 3/4 + 5/4 pounds
= 10+3+5 /4
= 18/4
= 9/2

In short, Your Answer would be 4.5 pounds or 9/2 pounds or 4 1/2 pounds
