This is from the novel of  F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby". There was one instance that Nick suspects Gatsby's past, and what triggers this is that Gatsby refuses to answer questions and his transformation of becoming rich only took him three years. This then made Nick doubted the accuracy of his statements.
