If Tom has 3 different sweaters, and 5 different pairs of pants, how many different combinations could he wear?

Check the tree diagram in the picture.

Tom could pick Pants 1 (P1), then Sweater 1, 2 or 3. So 3 combinations

Similarly if we picked P2, P3, P4 or P5 we would have 3 combinations per each.

In total we have 5*3=15 different combinations.
